Critique from @malikhaelstrom in a since deleted TikTok: “Fuck the nuance, but this has to be said. Gen Z — you’re not the little activists you think you are. I know you think that you’re pushing for great change, but I promise you, everybody sees right through it. It’s very performative, we all see it. The media is literally using you and pitting you against millennials for whatever unknown fucking reason and you don’t see it. All of this shit is performative, again. You don’t give a shit about half of the stuff y’all are chanting about online. You just want clout — that is very evident. Very, very evident. So let’s get out of this bad writing that American media is putting us in and let’s just the fuck up, mind our business, treat people with respect, and go on about our problematic lives. That’s it. I promise you, this global world-changing bullshit — it’s a lie, it’s a farce. I promise you are just as regular as the people that came before us.”
My response: This video doesn't sit right with me.
